She leaned back. The server hum returned to its normal, boring pitch.
“Very productive,” she said, clicking open a floor plan.
Karl smiled. It was a tired, knowing smile. “The firewall doesn’t block the guest Wi-Fi on the third floor. It’s a legacy segment for the old VoIP phones. Unfiltered. But you’ll need a cable. A specific one.”
Her boss, a man named Gerald who thought “the cloud” was weather-related, had simply said, “Fix it, Mira. Or Monday morning, we’re all hand-drawing elevations.”
“Karl,” she said, breathless. “I need a miracle.”
