Is Barnyard a good movie? Objectively, no. The plot is predictable, the animation is rough, and the biological confusion is legendary.

(A solid 4/5 for nostalgia; a solid 1/5 for factual bovine representation).

Otis (voiced by Kevin James) is the party-animal son of Ben, the respected leader of the barnyard. While his dad takes responsibility for protecting the animals from coyotes, Otis just wants to throw raves, ride a tractor like a skateboard, and invent bizarre sports (like "cow-tipping," but the cows tip the humans). When tragedy strikes, Otis must grow up and become a leader.

Watch it with friends, a bowl of popcorn, and a willingness to shout, "WHY DOES THAT COW HAVE UDDERS?" at your television.

Let’s address the elephant—or rather, the bull—in the room. The film’s most infamous decision is its protagonist: The movie tries to hand-wave this by saying he’s a "male cow" (a bull), but he lacks the horns and bulk of a bull, retaining the classic black-and-white patched udder. For biological accuracy, this is a 0/10. For unintentional comedy, it’s a 10/10. It’s become a legendary meme, and frankly, it’s the first thing anyone remembers about the film.

Absolutely, if you know what you’re getting into. It is the cinematic equivalent of a sugar rush: messy, loud, and a little headache-inducing, but weirdly fun. It doesn't deserve to be called a "masterpiece," but it also doesn't deserve to be completely forgotten.

If you were a child of the early 2000s, Barnyard is likely a hazy, feverish memory involving cows standing upright and a very specific Paramore song on the soundtrack. If you are watching it for the first time as an adult, you might need to sit down.
