      What is Boogie? Boogie (often called modern soul , post-disco , or synth-funk ) is the shimmering, drum-machine-driven sound that emerged in the late 1970s and peaked in the early-to-mid 1980s. Imagine the four-on-the-floor pulse of disco, but stripped down, electro-fied, and focused on pocket grooves, slap bass, analog synths (Oberheim, Prophet-5), and soulful, often understated vocals.
