Part One: The Girl Who Made It Rain Costina Munteanu grew up in a concrete suburb of Bucharest, where the only colors were rust, gray, and the occasional flash of a smuggled lipstick. Her mother worked in a failing cosmetics factory, pressing cheap powder into cracked compacts. At night, Costina would steal broken pigments and mix them in yogurt pots, creating shades the factory would never approve: “Midnight Thunder,” “Broken Bell,” “Cigarette Kiss.”
