Based on the inspirational true story of Dr. Benjamin S. Carson, Sr., this made-for-television drama (originally airing on TNT) traces Carson’s remarkable journey from a struggling, angry inner-city youth with poor grades to becoming the world-renowned Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital at age 33. The film focuses heavily on Carson’s teenage years, his mother’s unwavering insistence that he and his brother read two library books a week and write book reports (which opened his eyes to the world of learning), and his eventual groundbreaking medical career—most notably the first successful separation of conjoined twins (the Binder twins) joined at the back of the head in 1987.
