Chaos ensues. Elizabeth accuses Nick of kidnapping. Nick accuses Elizabeth of manipulation. Meredith arrives to cause trouble but is escorted out by hotel security (the twins tipped off a journalist, who films Meredith’s tantrum for the internet). In the storm, the power fails. Forced to wait out the night, the four of them sit by a fireplace in the unfinished lobby.

Annie teaches Hallie to use a fork properly, speak in received pronunciation, and fake a love for Earl Grey. Hallie teaches Annie to sail, tie knots, and fake a California shrug. They pierce each other’s ears with a sewing needle and ice (“On three. One, two— now ” both flinch ).

Forced to do “trust-building” tasks, they notice matching half-heart lockets their parents claimed were “one of a kind.” Hallie’s holds a photo of Nick; Annie’s, Elizabeth. The third task: a mirror exercise. When they stand face-to-face, the truth hits like lightning.

The counselors place them in the same cabin, noting their eerie resemblance. Hallie finds Annie fussy (“You iron your socks?”). Annie finds Hallie feral (“You use a toothbrush as a screwdriver?”). “You’re me,” Hallie whispers. “Worse,” Annie says, grinning. “I’m you but with better posture.”

The twins emerge from behind a curtain, in matching dresses. “Surprise,” they say in unison. Chaos ensues

Nick and Elizabeth walk in. They don’t scream. They freeze. Then Nick says, “You cut your hair.” Elizabeth touches hers. “You grew a beard. It’s… gray.”

Hallie is awed by Elizabeth’s kitchen kingdom but horrified by the loneliness of Annie’s life—notes on the fridge, dinner for one, a wall of postcards from Nick that were never answered. Elizabeth is sharp and loving but walls up. Hallie “accidentally” crashes a TV interview for Elizabeth’s new cookbook, charming the host and revealing that Elizabeth “misses America.” Elizabeth is rattled—in a good way.

Annie finds Nick warm but distracted. Meredith is a nightmare: cold, performative, and already measuring curtains for “when we sell this old place.” Worse, Nick has changed—less playful, more corporate. Annie discovers Meredith has forged a contract to sell the Parker Hotel to her chain. Annie blackmails Meredith with a hidden microphone (planted during a fake “spa day”): “Either you call off the sale and leave my father alone, or this recording goes to the board. Also, your ‘organic’ skincare line is 70% petroleum jelly.” Meredith arrives to cause trouble but is escorted

The twins coordinate a “family emergency” to lure both parents to Napa. Hallie (as Annie) tells Elizabeth that Nick is “sick, maybe serious.” Annie (as Hallie) tells Nick that Elizabeth “wants to sign divorce papers in person, finally.”

Meredith backs down but warns, “You’re not half as clever as you think, little girl.” The twins realize their parents haven’t just been apart—they’ve been lying to themselves . Elizabeth still wears her wedding ring on a chain. Nick still has Elizabeth’s old voice mails saved on a burner phone.
