Spirou | Comic

Spirou et Fantasio is not just a comic—it’s a living piece of European cultural history. At its best (the Franquin and Yoann/Vehlmann runs), it rivals anything from Disney or Tintin in terms of pure joy, creativity, and artistic mastery. If you love clever comics that can make you laugh out loud on one page and hold your breath in suspense on the next, don’t miss Spirou.

What is it? Spirou et Fantasio (often simply called Spirou ) is one of the founding pillars of Franco-Belgian comics ("BD" or bandes dessinées ). Created in 1938 by Robert Velter (under the pen name Rob-Vel), it follows the adventures of a uniformed bellboy named Spirou and his journalist friend Fantasio. Over nearly a century, it has been continued by legendary artists including Franquin, Fournier, and currently, Yoann & Vehlmann. spirou comic
