She glanced down. Then back up.

I groaned as her fingers wrapped around me. Warm. Certain.

“I missed this,” she said softly, pulling my zipper down. “I missed the weight of you. The way you sigh when you stop thinking so hard.” “Say it again,” I whispered

She looked up at me, mouth open, waiting.

Mom stood at the counter, slicing a cucumber. She wore one of her old summer dresses—thin, yellow cotton that clung to her hips. Her hair was shorter, streaked with deliberate silver at the temples. Her arms were more toned. She’d been taking care of herself. Or maybe the last three years had simply carved her into something sharper. First rule in effect
