Abstract: Yahoo Messenger (YM) was one of the pioneering instant messaging (IM) platforms, launching in 1998 and shutting down in 2018. This paper examines YM’s technological innovations, its role in shaping online communication culture, the strategic missteps that led to its decline, and the enduring lessons for contemporary collaboration tools.
